Egyptian market passes 10,000 products on regulator count

The number of products available in Egypt grew from about 8,500 to more than 10,000, while published survey data puts most engagements with doctors out of step.

The Egyptian market for medicines grew from about 8,500 available products to more than 10,000, the Egyptian Drug Authority stated on 15 June 2026. Hibridge, a Cairo healthcare consulting firm, states on its own site that it groups seven services into three headings.

What the product count shows#

The authority gave the growth in available products from about 8,500 to more than 10,000 as part of a statement on the sector to 2030. It put the 2025 market at EGP 422 billion, about US$8.5 billion, which it gave as 37 percent above 2024, and recorded four billion units by volume. It placed Egypt 26th in the world by market size, up from 30th in 2024, with a stated target of the global top 20 by 2030. Local factories make about 91 percent of the medicines consumed in the country. Zawya carried the figures.

What the engagement data shows#

Veeva Systems reported on 14 November 2024 that 65 percent of engagements with healthcare professionals are not synchronised, and that within ten days a representative meeting followed by a digital exposure is 30 percent more likely to result in a prescription. The company reported separately on 23 May 2024 that 45 percent of healthcare professionals were accessible to biopharma companies, against 60 percent eighteen months earlier, and that half of accessible professionals meet with three or fewer companies. Both sets come from its Pulse data series.

What the Cairo firm's site lists#

Hibridge gives 2014 as its founding year and Cairo as its base. Its site carries the heading seven services, three ways in, and groups them under meetings and engagement with healthcare professionals, technology, and commercial. The seven named services are conference and event management, technology integration, business intelligence and analytics, go-to-market and product launch, pharmaceutical marketing, branding and brand strategy, and social media and digital content. The site states that compliance is applied across all three groupings, and that an in-house pharmaceutical compliance team reviews work before it reaches the client.

What the compliance page sets out#

The firm's compliance page states that the in-house team reviews scientific claims, promotional code positions and transfer-of-value treatment, and that personal data handling is assessed against Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law, with European rules applying where a European or British parent company is involved. It gives the standards reviewed against as Egyptian requirements, market codes for the Gulf and global corporate policy. Further company announcements are filed with the Post-Mortem Desk.
