Techmart launches solid-state battery power banks in UAE market

Techmart World has launched solid-state battery power banks in the UAE under the Swiss Military brand, marking a commercial entry for the technology in the regional consumer market. The range includes 10,000mAh and 20,000mAh units in wireless magnetic and 3-in-1 wireless magnetic charging formats, according to Gulf News.

Solid-state batteries UAE temperature performance#

Solid-state batteries replace the liquid electrolyte used in conventional lithium-ion cells with solid materials. The Swiss Military units distributed by Techmart operate between 20°C and 80°C, compared with a 20°C to 50°C range for standard lithium-ion batteries, Gulf News reported. The technology reduces exposure to risks associated with leakage, thermal runaway and fire. Charging speed is another stated advantage: solid-state batteries could enable charging a mobile device from 10 percent to 80 percent in under 15 minutes, according to the report.

Manufacturing complexity and intermediate formats#

Producing solid-state batteries involves greater complexity than lithium-ion manufacturing, Gulf News noted. An intermediate format using semi-solid-state architecture is appearing in the market, offering selected characteristics of fully solid systems while working within current production methods. Techmart's introduction of the technology through a consumer product provides a first step in familiarising the regional market with the battery architecture, the report stated.

Electric mobility applications#

Batteries with higher energy density could allow electric vehicles to carry more stored energy for a given battery mass, extending travel distance between charges without increasing pack weight, according to Gulf News. The principle applies to e-scooters and other compact electric transport, where the mass and dimensions of the battery pack directly affect how far the vehicle can travel and how easily it can be used daily. Solid electrolytes may also carry safety implications where battery packs undergo intensive use and frequent charging cycles, the report stated.
